Family policies

Whether you may watch, what to wear, who collects and how photos are handled.

Photos of your child

We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.

Watching class and recitals

Grown-ups of Pre-Ballet students wait in the front room, which has a window onto the hall. Every session has a watch week, when families sit along the wall and watch the class. On other days the door stays closed so students can hear the teacher and the pianist. Recital seating is open, and photos and video at the recital follow the rule printed on the program.

What to wear and bring

Pre-Ballet wears a leotard and pink or tan tights, with a skirt if they like, and pink ballet slippers. From First Position up, a leotard, tights and ballet slippers, with a wrap skirt for the older levels. Hair is in a bun, off the neck, and jewelry stays home apart from stud earrings. Socks are fine for the first weeks, and we will tell you when shoes are needed. Pointe shoes come later, by the teacher's call. Costume sizes are taken in person, in the winter.

When to keep your child home

Please keep your student home with a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, and until they have been well for a full day. If something hurts, tell the teacher before class, and we will change what the student does that day.

Drop-off and pickup

A grown-up brings and collects every Pre-Ballet student, and the teacher hands each child to the person who came with them. For the older levels the door opens ten minutes before class, and we ask you to tell us who is collecting. We ask for ID from anyone we have not met, and we wait with a student until their grown-up arrives.

Absences and late arrival

Message the school when a student will miss a class, and we will tell you how to make it up in another class of the same level. A student who arrives after the barre joins quietly, and if class is well under way we will ask you to come back next week.

Closures for weather and holidays

We close for Thanksgiving week, for the winter holidays and for one week in spring that follows the area schools. When the area schools close for snow we close, and we text every family that morning. A class lost to weather is made up with an extra class later in the session.
