The studio
A rented hall, set for ballet
We rent a hall in Black Mountain and set it up for ballet: a wooden floor, a long barre at two heights, tall windows on one side and an upright piano in the corner. Pre-Ballet meets in classes of up to 8, and every level from First Position up in classes of up to 12.

The music
A live pianist at every class
The pianist plays for the barre, the center and the reverence, and watches the teacher's hands so that the music follows the dancers. Students learn to count a phrase of eight, and to listen.

Safety routines
Grown-ups of Pre-Ballet students
A parent or guardian waits in the front room for every Pre-Ballet class, and the teacher hands each child to a named grown-up at the door.
The floor and the barre
The floor is wood, the barre comes at two heights, and the hall is swept before the first class.
